While most guided tours are only half day, we specialize in full day tours. We are the ONLY guide service in town with English support. Palcall Tsumaoi is not particularly well known internationally, but don’t be fooled: Japanese skiers and snowboarders know and love this resort, and for good reason. It is the largest in Japan’s Karuizawa region, and a major attraction for skiers who appreciate long, wide, perfectly groomed runs.
Palcall is also rapidly developing a reputation for the quality of its terrain park – the largest in Asia – which has been an area of focus for the resort’s new owners. It’s been built by the industry’s best, and attracts everyone from pro riders to kids launching off a jump for the very first time in the 24-hour mini park.
No, you won’t necessarily get the waist-deep powder that you would some of Japan’s snowier regions, but that’s the point. This place is the for everyone else; it’s a beginner and intermediate paradise, easily accessible from Tokyo, with ski-in ski-out accommodation and resort facilities that make for an easy family holiday or weekend trip.
Manza Onsen Ski Resort / Powder snow near Karuizawa 万座滑雪场/轻井泽附近的粉雪
At an altitude of 1,994 meters, Manza Onsen Ski Resort offers the lightest and driest powder snow in Japan's Northern Alps. The trails are mostly designed with beginner and intermediate skiers in mind, but there are a number of fun features including a mini terrain park and a backcountry area. First Tracks allow a limited number of skiers to enjoy two ungroomed trails and a freshly groomed trail early in the morning on Sundays and National Holidays.

CHRISTIAN STORMS Ski Guide. Christian drives a 7 seater Toyota Landcruiser Prado. Christian has been skiing since he was 14 in resorts in Colorado. He's been in Japan for 33 years. In the off-season, Christian is a TV producer. His production company Local 81 has produced shows like Top Gear and The Amazing Race. As a resident of Karuizawa, he hosts a monthly radio show called Working Title on FM Karuizawa about movie soundtracks. What I like about guiding is that it compliments my producing quiver of world-class communication skills and risk management skills. Guiding also enhances my emotional skill set making me care more, respect more and empathize more. Guiding makes me motivate others as well as myself. In the fall, Christian is also a climbing guide with Local 81 Climbing Guides.

KOHEI Sakurai Ski/Snowboard Guide. 滑雪/滑雪板导游
Kohei was born and raised in Kitakaruizawa. He has been skiing since age 4. He lived in Los Angeles for 6 years from age 15. He was a full time instructor for 3 years at the Prince Resort in Karuizawa. He’s got the smile of a kid even though he’s 39. And he’s got the energy of a kid too and kids love racing him down the mountain. He knows all the neighboring resorts from Hakuba to Shigakogen to the back country of Manza. He loves the outdoors. He thinks the joy of skiing is connecting with nature. In the off season, he works as an arborist climbing and cutting down big timber. If you need firewood, he’s your man. He lives in Nakanojo with his wife, 2 year old son and Lilly, a cocker spaniel.
DAISUKE EDOHARA Ski Guide. 滑雪导游
Daisuke was born in Tokyo and raised in Nagano. He has been skiing since he was three in Sugadaira, East part of Nagano. Daisuke joined Alpine Ski race team in Sugadaira when he was nine in junior high. He attended college in the US in Michigan. In his earlier life, he was a recording engineer. He is chairman of Telemark Ski Association of Japan and a back country skiing professional. He has been a full time instructor over 25 years in Ski Association Japan authorized Ski School at the Prince Resort in Karuizawa. Qualifications include: SAJ Ski Level 1, Chairman of Telemark Ski Association of Japan, Telemark Ski Association of Japan Instructor/Examiner. In the off-season, he runs Creative Complex Studio, a recording studio, produces music events providing the PA sound system, and manages Edohara Pension, a guest house. He loves tinkering with his old Land Rover. He lives in Karuizawa with his wife and two year old son.
GRANT STAFFORD Ski Guide. 滑雪导游
Grant has been skiing for over 45 years (25 in Japan) and has lived, worked and skied in countries around the world such as Switzerland, USA, Canada, and Japan. He is currently a regular seasonal ski leader for ski camps in Niigata. With over 440 operating ski resorts in Japan, he enjoys trying out new areas as often as he can. He loves getting out into the mountains, carving turns in pristine settings and meeting new people to share the experience with. He spends the off-season hiking, climbing, or at the beach near one of the top windsurfing spots in Eastern Japan where he lives with his wife, two children, and Mick the dog.
